Our angels must have spoken

by Taurenelle

Our angels must have spoken

however angels do.

Now I see the sadness

pouring from your pew.

Now I know I’m needed

behind your fractured mask.

An answer to a question

you had never asked.

Not a winged helper

descending from the dome,

just a gentle smile

welcoming you home.

Our angels must have spoken

whatever that entails.

Now you know the sins

beneath my chapel veil.

Now you know you’re needed

within my fractured walls,

a suitor for my soul

whom I never called.

Not the Holy Father

blessing me from Rome,

just a gentle touch

welcoming me home.

Our angels must have spoken,

or do they prefer to sing?

Swaying us to the altar

of our eternal king.

Now we know we’re needed

by the humbled and the lost.

Widening the bridge

for those still uncrossed.

Not the blessed scriptures

staving off the gloam,

just our gentle voices

welcoming them home.
