Upon a dusty shelf

by Taurenelle

I felt her in the other room

before my Monday lauds

quieting my mind

from upon a dusty shelf

hushing me to the kind of sleep

you only have when you’re awake

breaking my temptations

with her stillness

listening to my countless woes

with endless patience

I felt her from my desk

forty miles away

quieting my mind

from upon a dusty shelf

tempering my wrath

against those trying their best

deflating my greed

as I tally my sins

showing my pride

the giants it stands on

I felt her from the nave

as my vespers came to a close

quieting my mind

from upon a dusty shelf

blessed by a father

oh so long ago

teaching me strength

from behind delicate, glass eyes

whispering truths

I let myself forget
