Biography
Taurenelle is a New York City-based author whose work—and general disposition—sit somewhere between ancient elegy and modern absurdity, between deep world-building and characters who just want to watch it all burn.
His writing draws upon his education in Classical Philology, his love for Roman and Ancient Greek poetry... and his affinity for bad comedy films from the late 1900s. The result is fantasy with genuine emotional weight, prose that reads like it was written by someone who fought in the Punic Wars, and humor that arrives precisely when you least expect it.
His flash fiction piece, I told you this was a poem won Grand Prize at the Not Quite Write Flash Fiction Challenge and earned him a Pushcart Prize nomination. An excerpt from his debut novel, Deep Lore, earned a spot on the 2024 Granum Foundation Longlist. And a bunch of his other work has done a bunch of other stuff that he doesn't feel like typing right now.
But, when he's not writing, he can be found sitting on his front stoop, wearing a full suit, reading Vergil, and drinking Whiskey. Unless it's cold outside, then he can be found sitting in a library, wearing a full suit, reading Vergil, and hiding his Whiskey from the librarians.
